According to a study from Deloitte LLP in response to inflation and spending released late October, figures show that 11.5% of U.S. holiday shoppers plan not to spend anything on gifts and services this holiday. For those who don’t plan to spend, almost two-thirds make less than $50,000 a year and about one in eight of the non-spenders make $100,000 or more, the study noted.
For many neighbors served by FISH, under-employment and lost income from the COVID health crisis continues and is a major reason many do not plan on spending or will spend very little this holiday season. Others are experiencing medical emergencies, live on low fixed incomes, or have encountered other circumstances that limit income. Assisting neighbors through the Adopt-A-Family Program is a simple act of kindness that can make all the difference in the world to a neighbor this holiday season.
The Adopt-A-Family program provides a wonderful opportunity to pay it forward for someone who is struggling. FISH will supply a wish list from Adopt-A-Family participants; from there, the process is simple:
FISH volunteers will sort, wrap, and deliver gifts to neighbors in time for the holiday. Volunteers working on this program will follow strict COVID safety measures that include wearing masks, social distancing, and frequent use of hand sanitizer. If you, or someone you know can benefit from this program, please contact FISH. Individuals and businesses can become Adopt-A-Family donors by contacting FISH, 239-472-4775.
