A huge and heartfelt ‘welcome back’ to all FISH seasonal volunteers! FISH provides services to over 3681 individuals through their over 150 active volunteers. In 2020, FISH volunteers donated 4433 hours and drove 19,382 miles conducting FISH business.
FISH was founded by a group of neighbors 40 years ago and still considers volunteers their lifeblood. Through activities big and small, FISH volunteers allow the over 30 programs and services FISH offers throughout each year such as food pantry, hot meal delivery, food backpacks for kids, equipment for loan, and more, to run. “We rely heavily on our volunteer force and cannot thank each and every one of them enough. Their giving of time and energy toward our many programs and services is a true treasure. The level of caring and compassion from our volunteers is second to none, and we are so very proud to work with them,” states Maria Espinoza, Executive Director
Volunteer contributions don’t go unnoticed and are celebrated annually at the FISH Annual Meeting and Volunteer Recognition Luncheon, to be held on February 15, 2022. The afternoon, hosted by FISH, gives volunteers, staff, and board members an opportunity to reflect on the hard work of the previous year, hear local musical talent, and enjoy a delicious meal together.
“We are thrilled to see our seasonal volunteers return, and we have lots of areas that can use their assistance. And we are always looking for additional people who want to volunteer within their community. Even if you have just one hour, once a week, we can find a place for you,” continues Espinoza.
There are always opportunities to become involved with FISH, from transportation to meal delivery; phone duty to stocking shelves; and much more! New volunteers are trained in their area(s) of interest, and placed with a more seasoned volunteer, giving newcomers the necessary tools to be successful. The application to become a FISH volunteer can be found on their website, https://www.fishofsancap.org/volunteers. The next new volunteer training for the FISH organization will be held on January 6, 2022 beginning at 10:00a via Zoom. For additional details and for log in information, please contact FISH.
