FISH Inundated by Requests for Assistance From Tools to Food

In the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, FISH of SANCAP has experienced an overwhelming surge in requests for assistance from the residents and workforce of Sanibel and Captiva. With homes damaged, livelihoods disrupted, and recovery efforts underway, FISH stepped in to provide critical resources, distributing over 1,000 meals in just one day—many of which went to residents struggling to recover. Cleaning supplies, fresh meals, and even a kind word are proving to be lifelines for the community.

Malia Samson, an island resident who has been working diligently to restore her home, expressed her gratitude for the support she received from FISH. “After hours of pulling off drywall and flooring, I stopped by FISH for cleaning supplies and water. The floor squeegee was just what we needed for the cement floor after we pulled up the laminate flooring. While I was there, Maria directed me to the food truck for a hot meal. It was a nice break, especially when you are exhausted and hungry. Thank you, FISH!”

This heartwarming story is just one of many that highlight the impact FISH has had during these challenging times. The staff and volunteers at FISH are deeply moved by the strength of the community and are committed to continuing their mission to help residents and the workforce rebuild and recover, one meal, one supply, and one act of kindness at a time.

FISH remains grateful for the partnership with World Central Kitchen, who have provided meals on both Sanibel and Captiva since access to the islands was restored.  “We are incredibly grateful to World Central Kitchen for stepping in and providing hot, nutritious meals to our community after Hurricane Milton. Their team has been a tremendous support, even going above and beyond by delivering meals to those who couldn’t make it to the feeding station at the Community House. Their dedication and compassion have made an enormous difference for so many of our neighbors during this difficult time,” states Maria Espinoza, Executive Director, FISH of SANCAP.
