FISH of SanCap Continues to Support Families Facing Ongoing Struggles After Hurricane Milton

The ongoing recovery from Hurricane Milton has left many families facing unprecedented challenges, especially following back-to-back storms that have added to their struggles. For Chris Miller and her son, the situation is particularly heartbreaking. Despite extensive pre-storm preparations, including filling over 40 sandbags, they were unable to prevent water from severely damaging their home.

After spending a week at a local Marriott, the Miller family received the devastating news that they could not return to their house. “We did everything we could,” Chris shared. “But the water still came in. We didn’t expect to be displaced like this.”

Like many other residents on the islands, Chris and her son are now navigating the tough road to recovery. Temporary housing options are limited, especially for pet owners. Thankfully, a few incredibly kind local business owners have stepped forward to provide the family with temporary pet-friendly housing.

FISH of SanCap is actively supporting the Miller family, ensuring they have access to essentials like food, water, and other necessary supplies. “It’s stories like these that remind us how challenging recovery can be, especially after consecutive storms,” said Maria Espinoza, Executive Director of FISH. “We’re grateful for the local businesses stepping up to provide assistance, and we’re committed to doing everything we can to help families like the Millers rebuild their lives.”

The challenges of post-storm recovery are compounded by limited resources, overwhelming demand, and the emotional toll of starting over after multiple storms. FISH continues to serve as a beacon of hope for many, providing not just food and supplies, but also emotional support and guidance as families work toward long-term recovery.
