FISH of Sanibel-Captiva (FISH) will host the Lee Health Blood Mobile at its location at 2430 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel on November 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. As blood shortages continue to affect Lee County, this drive offers an opportunity for the community to come together and support a vital cause.
Blood donations play a critical role in sustaining the healthcare system across Lee Health’s four acute care hospitals: Cape Coral Hospital, Gulf Coast Medical Center, HealthPark Medical Center, and Lee Memorial Hospital, which houses the only Trauma Center within a five-county radius. These donations also benefit patients at Lee Health’s specialty hospitals, including Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida, the Rehabilitation Hospital, Regional Cancer Center, and Lee Health Coconut Point.
“We are proud to partner with Lee Health in helping to address the critical need for blood donations in our community,” said Maria Espinoza, Executive Director of FISH. “The blood collected during this drive will remain local, serving the patients in our area who need it most.”
If possible, consider spending a few minutes to save the life of another person. All donors will receive a limited-edition long sleeve t-shirt and wellness checkupincluding blood pressure, temperature, iron count, and cholesterol screening. To sign up to donate blood call Manuela at FISH, (239) 472-4775 or email manuela@fishofsancap.org.
Blood supplies must be continuously replenished to ensure there is an adequate supply for patient care. From trauma victims to cancer patients, the demand for blood is constant, and donations are crucial to maintaining the life-saving treatments that many depend on.
According to the Lee Health website, as home to the region’s only trauma center, it is vital that the health system’s blood supply remains at healthy levels in order to quickly care for patients needing an urgent transfusion. Blood and blood products are not only used in the trauma center, but also to treat cancer patients, premature babies, anemia and a variety of other conditions.
Lee Health’s blood centers are the sole supplier of all blood products for the entire health system. About 800 units of blood are needed per week, and the blood centers rely on life-saving donations from the community to maintain inventory levels.
The Lee Health Blood Mobile will be at numerous locations throughout Southwest Florida. Click here for dates and times: https://www.leehealth.org/…/blood-mobile/blood-drives . If unable to attend one of the upcoming blood drives, donations can also be made at one of Lee Health’s blood centers to help save lives.
