FISH OF SANCAP announced today it has been named a “2021 Top-Rated Nonprofit” by GreatNonprofits, the leading provider of user reviews of charities and nonprofits.
The Top-Rated Nonprofit award is based on outstanding online reviews from those served, community members, volunteers and/or board members. As one neighbor served writes, “FISH has been a Godsend through the pandemic. Many users of FISH have had even more hardship over the last 1-1/2 years. The organization has responded with focused giving from food to social services, to maintaining high spirits to the homebound to providing COVID vaccines to the community, and much more. All with smiles on their faces!!” Additional reviews may be read at https://greatnonprofits.org/org/f-i-s-h-of-sanibel-captiva-inc.
“FISH is a great example of a nonprofit making a real difference in their community,” said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits, “Their award is well-deserved recognition not only of their work, but the tremendous support they receive, as shown by the many outstanding reviews they have received from people who have direct experience working with FISH.”
FISH enriches the lives of all people in Sanibel and Captiva Islands as neighbors helping neighbors with social services, education and assistance and is the only wrap-around social service agency provider. Their vision is to create island communities where all people have the support they need to thrive. “We are especially proud that this distinction is awarded by community recognition of the work of our incredible staff, volunteers, and gracious donors,” says Alicia Tighe Orgera, Executive Director, FISH.
FISH has been a ‘neighbors helping neighbors’ organization on Sanibel and Captiva for nearly 40 years. The organization started in island residents’ kitchens and out of their cars, but FISH has continued to grow to meet the demands of the community thanks to the generosity of donors and volunteers. FISH maximizes all contributions — 92 percent of every dollar spent goes directly to programs and services, and FISH has something for everyone by providing services that pave pathways to self-sufficiency for community members.
Last year, 26,933 service requests were answered by FISH. Their Food Pantry, one of the most utilized programs of the agency, witnessed 6,488 visits that distributed 246,545 pounds of food. Other accomplishments include 6,412 meals delivered to islanders; assembly and delivery of 1,974 food backpacks for children, 3,589 reassurance calls and more.
