National Caregivers Day is recognized on Friday, February 20, 2026, and at FISH of SanCap, it lands in a month already centered on love, kindness, and looking out for one another. February’s theme of spreading the love and loving your neighbors is a natural fit for honoring caregivers—people who show up every day to support seniors, family members, and loved ones when help is needed most.
Caregiving often happens behind the scenes. It can mean helping with meals, transportation, personal care, medication reminders, or simply being a reassuring presence. For many seniors, caregivers make it possible to remain safe, comfortable, and connected in their own homes. FISH sees firsthand how essential this support is, especially as the island population continues to age and requests for senior services continue to grow.
Through its Senior Services program, FISH works closely with seniors and their families to help navigate caregiving needs. In addition to their wellness checks, home visits and socialization events, FISH offers referrals to a trusted list of qualified caregivers, guidance on available resources, and connections to additional support services when needs change. These referrals are part of FISH’s broader role as a community resiliency hub—helping residents stay stable not only during emergencies, but in everyday life as well.
“Caregivers are often the glue holding things together for seniors and families,” said Erika Arnowitz, Senior Services Director at FISH. “On National Caregivers Day, we want caregivers to know they are valued and deeply appreciated. At FISH, we’re here to support them too—by helping families find reliable care, answering questions, and standing by them as needs evolve.”
FISH’s senior programming also includes transportation coordination, food support, medical equipment for loan, ‘Smile Boxes’, workshop educational opportunities and referrals other types of referrals to service providers. Together, these services help seniors age in place with dignity while reducing isolation and stress for both seniors and those who care for them.
Senior Services at FISH is partially supported by a grant from CAMEO of Lee County, helping ensure these programs remain available to those who rely on them.
As February highlights love in all its forms, FISH encourages the community to take a moment to recognize caregivers—professional and family alike—who embody what it means to love your neighbors. Sometimes the greatest acts of care are the compassionate help that makes everyday life possible.
