FISH of SanCap will welcome Sanibel author and naturalist Charles Sobczak as the guest speaker for its September Friendly Faces luncheon on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Sanibel Community Church, 1740 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, FL 33957, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Sobczak will present “The Changing Face of Nature,” an illustrated look at the changing relationship between people, wildlife and the environments they share. An award-winning author who lives and writes on Sanibel Island, Sobczak has authored 10 books, including three nonfiction titles focused on Florida’s flora and fauna.
During “The Changing Face of Nature,” Sobczak will explore how wildlife is adapting as people continue to change natural habitats. He will look at the increasing presence of wildlife in urban and suburban areas, unexpected places that have become habitat, and how conservation and human attitudes toward wildlife have changed over time.
Sobczak has been a speaker with Road Scholar, formerly Elderhostel, for more than 20 years and has presented for organizations throughout Southwest Florida and beyond. He plans to bring a selection of his books to the luncheon for guests interested in learning more about his work.
“Friendly Faces is about bringing people together, but we also want each gathering to offer something interesting and relevant to our community,” said Erika Arnowitz, FISH Senior Services Director. “Charles knows this area and its wildlife so well, and I think his perspective will lead to a great conversation. We are looking forward to having him with us.”
Friendly Faces is part of FISH’s Senior Services programs but is open to all community members. The monthly gathering offers lunch, conversation and a changing lineup of speakers and activities while giving participants another way to stay connected.
The September Friendly Faces luncheon will be held Tuesday, Sept. 8, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Sanibel Community Church. There is no cost to attend, but reservations are requested. To RSVP, visit: https://friendlyfacessept2026.rsvpify.com
