FISH Attends American Red Cross CAP Presentation on Financial Success Strategies for Nonprofits

FISH of SanCap recently attended the American Red Cross Community Adaptation Program (CAP) presentation, Financial Success Strategies for Nonprofits, held at The Heights Foundation in Lee County.

The day-long workshop brought together CAP partners from across the region to focus on strategies for strengthening nonprofit financial health. The agenda included sessions on grant readiness, diversified funding streams, fundraising strategy, board engagement, and organizational planning. The program also provided time for networking and collaboration among CAP partners serving communities throughout Southwest Florida.

The workshop, led in part by Andrew Brown, Grants and Collaborative Projects Manager for the American Red Cross Community Adaptation Program, walked attendees through what it takes to build a strong grant seeking mindset. Topics included diversifying income sources, maintaining clear financial and strategic plans, preparing required documentation such as Form 990s and audited financial statements, and strengthening storytelling through clear mission messaging. The afternoon session focused on rounding out a fundraising strategy, including the role of board members and leadership in supporting development efforts.

As an active CAP partner, FISH participates in coordinated efforts led by the American Red Cross to strengthen community resilience before and after disasters. CAP partners work together to share resources, respond together to emergencies, and maintain communication throughout the year. Being a CAP partner means having a seat at the table with trusted community organizations, building relationships ahead of crises, and supporting one another when neighbors need help most.

“Advancing community?led readiness is central to how the American Red Cross works to mobilize communities. Creating lasting impact is only possible when we work together to build our collective capacity,” said Cindy Magnuson, Community Adaptation Program Disaster Risk Reduction Manager. “By investing time now in strengthening community resilience—through increased preparedness and organizational readiness—we improve future disaster outcomes and support faster, more effective recovery. Equipping our CAP partners with the knowledge and tools they need doesn’t just strengthen individual organizations—it strengthens the entire community.”

FISH shared that the opportunity to gather with other CAP partners was just as valuable as the content itself. “It was incredibly helpful to spend time with fellow CAP partners who are doing similar work throughout Lee County,” said Maggie Goldsmith, Marketing & Grants Director. “The sessions were a great reminder that strong, forward planning, a mix of funding sources, and clear communication are the foundation of our work and what allows FISH to keep showing up for neighbors, especially when they need us most.”

FISH extends its appreciation to the American Red Cross Community Adaptation Program team and The Heights Foundation for hosting an engaging and interactive day. Opportunities like this strengthen collaboration across organizations and help ensure that nonprofits throughout Lee County are well prepared to serve their communities.
