FISH Thanks Bat Yam Temple of the Islands for Generous Gift Supporting Food Programs

FISH of SanCap recently received a generous $2,500 gift from Bat Yam Temple of the Islands in support of its food pantry and year-round food programs, helping ensure residents and the workforce across Sanibel and Captiva have reliable access to healthy food.

The donation was presented during Bat Yam’s annual Community Chanukah Menorah Lighting, held at The Seahorse Shoppes. The gathering brought together residents from across the islands to celebrate community, tradition, and shared responsibility for one another.

FISH’s food programs serve seniors, working families, children, and individuals facing unexpected hardship. Through its food pantry, Meals-by-FISH, weekend backpack meals for children, and holiday food distributions, FISH provides consistent access to groceries and prepared meals throughout the year. These services are especially critical for island residents living on fixed incomes or balancing seasonal and service-based employment.

“This gift reflects the heart of what partnership looks like on these islands,” said Maria Espinoza, Executive Director of FISH. “Bat Yam Temple of the Islands has long understood that food security is a foundation for stability. Their support helps us keep our shelves stocked and our doors open to anyone who needs a little help putting food on the table.”

In sharing the gift, Bat Yam emphasized the deeper meaning behind the donation and its connection to the season of light. “At this season where our faith traditions focus upon light and bringing light to the world, this is one way we can push back against the darkness of poverty and homelessness. We are pleased to be allies in this holy work,” said Rabbi Sunny Schnitzer.

FISH relies on community partners, businesses, grant funding and individual donors to sustain its food programs, which operate year-round and expand during times of increased need, including storms, economic disruptions, and the holidays.
