FISH of SanCap will welcome Shannon Rivard, Youth Education Director at Sanibel Sea School, as the guest speaker for its October Friendly Faces luncheon on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at Sanibel Community Church, 1740 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel.
Rivard will share more about Sanibel Sea School, its year-round programs and stories from this past summer. She will also talk about the organization’s work connecting children and families with the islands’ marine environment through hands-on experiences.
“Shannon’s work is such a natural fit for Friendly Faces because so many of our participants have a strong connection to the islands and the environment,” said Erika Arnowitz, FISH Senior Services Director. “It will be fun to hear what the kids have been learning and some of the stories from their summer programs.”
Rivard joined Sanibel Sea School in 2017 as a Marine Science Educator and now leads its youth education programs. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Marine Science and Biology and a Master of Professional Science in Marine Conservation, both from the University of Miami.
Friendly Faces is offered through FISH Senior Services and is open to everyone, regardless of age. The monthly gathering brings people together for lunch, conversation and a local guest speaker.
“I look forward to Friendly Faces every month,” said one past participant. “It gets me out of the house, I see people I know and many that I don’t, and I always end up learning something new and making new connections.”
The October luncheon will be held Tuesday, Oct. 13 at Sanibel Community Church, 1740 Periwinkle Way. Lunch is provided, and all are welcome.
