Thanksgiving is about sharing a meal, catching up with friends and spending time with the people who make a community feel like home. FISH of SanCap invites island residents, workers, families and friends to do just that at its annual Community Thanksgiving celebration on Tuesday, November 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Sanibel Community House. 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel.
The annual gathering brings neighbors together for a complimentary Thanksgiving meal prepared by Jerry’s Foods of Sanibel. Whether attending with family, meeting friends or simply looking for a place to enjoy the holiday with others, everyone is welcome.
“Community Thanksgiving is one of those gatherings that reminds us why we love living and working on these islands,” said Maria Espinoza, FISH Executive Director. “People come together from all walks of life, share a meal and enjoy each other’s company. There is something special about seeing familiar faces and welcoming new ones around the table.”
For FISH, the celebration is an extension of its commitment to keeping neighbors connected. Throughout the year, the organization provides food assistance, senior services, financial assistance and educational opportunities for those who live and work on Sanibel and Captiva. Community Thanksgiving offers an opportunity to bring people together outside of those everyday programs and services.
The evening also reflects the generosity of local businesses, donors, community partners and volunteers who contribute their time and resources to make the gathering possible. Jerry’s Foods, a longtime FISH partner, will once again provide the Thanksgiving meal, while the Sanibel Community House will welcome guests as the venue. Volunteers will lend a hand with everything from preparing for the event to serving meals and welcoming neighbors. Additional community partners may join the celebration and will be recognized through FISH’s social media channels as details are confirmed.
Community Thanksgiving is complimentary and open to the community. Reservations are encouraged to help FISH plan for food and seating. To RSVP, please visit https://communitythanksgiving2026.rsvpify.com
FISH welcomes volunteers to assist with event preparation, greeting guests, serving meals and cleanup. Volunteer opportunities will be available through POINT at pointapp.org/orgs/2509. Those interested may also contact FISH at mj@fishofsancap.org.
“Some people have attended Community Thanksgiving for years, while others may be joining us for the first time,” Espinoza said. “We hope everyone leaves having enjoyed a good meal, some conversation and time with their neighbors.”
FISH thanks Jerry’s Foods, the Sanibel Community House, community supporters and the volunteers who help make this annual gathering possible.
