FISH of Sanibel-Captiva will host its next Friendly Faces Luncheon on Tuesday, June 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sanibel & Captiva Islands Association of REALTORS®, located at 2353 Periwinkle Way #201 on Sanibel.
The monthly luncheon brings older adults, caregivers, neighbors, and friends together for conversation, connection, and support. June’s event will feature special guest speaker Christine LoConte, Chief Executive Officer of the Dubin Center.
A Southwest Florida native and fellow Rotarian, LoConte began her career at age 17 as a professional caregiver for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease. That experience shaped her lifelong commitment to supporting older adults and families facing dementia-related challenges. She holds a master’s degree in Social Impact and became CEO of the Dubin Center in July 2024.
Guests will enjoy lunch from The Lighthouse Cafe while hearing LoConte share insight on caregiving, Alzheimer’s awareness, and the growing need for support systems for aging adults and their families.
“Caregiving can feel overwhelming for many families, especially when dementia or Alzheimer’s enters the picture,” said Erika Arnowitz. “This luncheon creates space for people to learn, ask questions, connect with others, and realize they are not alone. Christine brings both knowledge and compassion to this conversation.”
In 2024, Arnowitz completed training through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners and earned her Certified Dementia Practitioner designation. The certification reflects specialized training in dementia and Alzheimer’s care and strengthens FISH’s ongoing commitment to supporting older adults and caregivers across the islands.
“Working with seniors is incredibly rewarding,” Arnowitz added. “Every person has a story, wisdom, and experiences that matter. The more we understand dementia care, the better we can support both seniors and the families walking through these challenges with them.”
Friendly Faces Luncheons continue growing as more community members seek opportunities for social connection, education, and support. The luncheon is provided at no cost through FISH. Space is limited and reservations are required by June 5.
