A working mother and her young son had spent approximately a week living in their vehicle when she reached out to FISH of SanCap. She had already found an affordable apartment and was working. What she lacked was enough money to cover the upfront costs required to move in.
Her employer offered to help with the security deposit through a payroll repayment arrangement, and with assistance supported in part by The Sanctuary Golf Club Foundation, FISH helped toward the family’s initial rent, covering the first month and part of the second.
“This mother had already found an apartment and had a plan for managing the rent going forward,” said Nitza Lopez, FISH Social Services Director. “She just needed some help getting there. That short-term support gave her and her son the opportunity to move into stable housing and begin moving forward.
The mother and her son also began using the FISH Food Pantry and Youth Backpack Program to help reduce household food expenses.
“Because of this help, my son and I have a safe place to call home,” the client said. “After everything we had been through, being able to walk into our own home and know we were safe is something I will always remember.”
